These big-box chain stores used to avoid loyalty programs, but in 2020 they have decided to introduce Walmart+, in order to compete with Amazon Prime.
Unlike other loyalty programs, it’s not free, but if you really like Walmart products, the $98 package fee might be worth it. There are numerous benefits, such as:

- Walmart Rewards, which is a new perk that will offer cash back on some of the best items, including groceries, household items, and pet care
- Paramount+ Essential subscription
- Free delivery on some items from local stores (but it only applies to orders above $35)
- Free next-day and two-day shipping of some items from Walmart.com
- 10 cents of each gallon of gas
- Mobile scan-and-go program
Kroger
Any experienced Kroger customer will advise you that it’s totally foolish to buy anything from this store without a Kroger Plus card. If you want to sign up, it’s totally free, and it only gives access to a ton of savings in the Kroger world. Some of the most notable perks are:
- Access to sale prices, including the store’s much anticipated “mega-events”
- Personalized digital coupons that are based on previously bought items
- Coupons for free stuff on select Fridays
- One fuel point for every dollar you spend there, with double fuel points on gift cards
Target
While you might not consider Target as a potential grocer, Walmart’s arch-rival has been really working to expand its food game recently. Target added thousands of products to its Good & Gather line. You should boost your grocery savings by simply taking advantage of Target Circle, which is the store’s free loyalty program. Here are some of the benefits of being a member:
- Exclusive discounts of 5% to 50% on various groceries and many other items
- 1% in earnings to use at Target for non-RedCard owners
- 5% off a shopping trip as a birthday reward
Also, Target Circle is best when used with RedCard, which you can use as a debit card. The RedCard has way more benefits, such as a 5% discount, plus free shipping for any purchases made on Target.com
