Avoid The Name-Brand Craze

A huge mistake most of us make is giving in to marketing and other such ploys of advertisers. Due to how heavily certain products are advertised, we end up reaching for the name-brand products when we are in store. Of course, some products are of higher quality than the generic version, but other times you are simply paying more for a label.

If you pay attention to all the options on the shelves, a lot of stores have their own brands and, generally, they strive to make their products just as good as their competitors’, if not better at times, in hopes you will make the jump to their products, and they will become a staple on your grocery list. And there’s truly no risk in trying them out. You can save money if you shop store brands, as sometimes they are priced as much as 40% lower.

And if you’re striving to buy as many organic products as you can, store brands are where you will be saving big money!

Are You REALLY Going To Eat All Of That?

Unfortunately, it has been shown that here in America, we have portions that are generally too big. This happens very often when we go shopping. We end up buying way more produce than we actually need. Which in turn, if we aren’t careful to store them away as leftovers or portion them to store them in the freezer, they can end up being wasted as they are thrown out.

Not only is it a bad financial decision when you end up throwing away a lot of food, but it’s also wasteful and we should all be more mindful of that. It doesn’t help that there are a lot of wholesale retail stores like Costco, which have really good deals for large quantities of food. If your family is big, then it’s a great thing. Otherwise, you may end up buying too much and not having enough time to eat the produce before it ends up expiring.

In order to save money, you should make sure that even if you get a great deal on a bigger quantity, you take the time to portion it and store it in the freezer as soon as possible. That way, you will actually save money since you will have premade portions in the fridge to use when you need them, as opposed to cooking too much at once and losing money when you have to throw away the food.
