Keep a price list

Try to keep a record of the prices of the groceries you buy the most. This will help you to know when you’re getting a good deal and when you’re not. For instance, I prefer to buy Barilla pasta from Walmart because they sell it for only $1.58. Knowing this, I won’t buy a pound of pasta that costs $3.

Change stores

You may find that the grocery stores closest to your home aren’t the cheapest. Most people prefer to find a supermarket near their houses to save some time. But does going to that store save you some money too?

Check online to do some price comparison research and see where you can find your groceries cheaper. Keep in mind that those stores with lower prices shouldn’t be too far from your house so you don’t spend more money on gas.

Supermarkets like Walmart, Lidl, Aldi or Costco are usually good choices. In fact, according to a recent study, Aldi is actually the cheapest grocery store in America.

Buy in bulk

Buying items in bulk instead of buying in smaller quantities can save you a small fortune. For example, 6 lbs of dark roast whole bean coffee goes for $39.99 at Costco, with $10 more than you would pay at Walmart for half the amount of coffee beans.

So, make a list of your most commonly purchased groceries and other household items (flour, canned goods, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, pet food and so on) and check the supermarkets for bulks to make some price comparisons. You can thank me later.
