Prime time to use water

Make sure you take note of how hot it is outside! If you water your lawn at the height of the heat of the day, you should stop, as you’re better off watering your garden after the sun goes down or early in the morning. You are wasting water because a lot of it is actually evaporating, and when that happens, not only are you wasting important resources but also basically throwing money out the window!

Believe us, the soil and your plants will appreciate it, and your water bill will be significantly lower.

Why waste electricity on the dryer?

Let’s all be honest for a second. When was the last time you let most of your clothes air dry? And we aren’t talking about the specific fabrics that you aren’t allowed to put in the dryer, but rather all your clothes. Of course, we have all gotten accustomed to just doing our laundry and then throwing everything in the dryer, but think about what that does for your electricity bill.

Especially if you live in a house with a garden! The biggest advantage of summer is that you can use an old-fashioned clothes line to hang all of your laundry instead of always using the dryer. The heat in the summer months is free, and it takes up to 5 minutes to hang everything out. With how hot some states get, you’ll have everything dry in a matter of hours!

Moreover, you can do that on a balcony as well if you live in an apartment complex! According to savings sites, you can end up saving up to $200 a year if you switch to using a clothing line to dry your clothes in the summer months (depending on the type of dryer and energy rates). Why not give it a try and lower your electricity bill for a few months?

  1. Not only is it better on your plants to water in the evening, you will not need to water as long. Why do you think the dew falls in the early evening?
Closing the curtains/blinds in the summer helps, but opening them in the winter helps just as much. Take advantage of solar heat in the winter. Eastern and southern windows are the best for this.
When insulating your home, work from the top down. I was pleasantly surprised how much my attic insulation helped keep the house comfortable.
Years ago we rented an old house that had basically useless skirting. I stapled thick clear plastic around the inside sills under the perimeter of the house for a wind barrier. My new husband was shocked at how much warmer the old wood floors were on his bare feet.
Now I loved seeing the split system heat and air unit in your first picture. It has been the best investment I have made in my home. I’ve had mine 5 years and it has already paid for itself in energy savings.
