3. Impulsive things
…when they’re in the checkout lane!
We get it. You’re in the checkout line, and you look around, hoping that time will go by faster. You see a pack of gum, and you want it. Then you see some chocolate, and you think that your family will like it. You get the idea.
However, part of being frugal is learning to recognize the difference between wants and needs. Do you really need that gum or that block of chocolate? If not, you’d better put them back on the shelf.
4. Beverages at restaurants
If you want to save money when you go out to eat, you’d better avoid ordering drinks. People who value saving money don’t all wear capes with shiny dollar signs on them.
Despite their affinity for frugality, they sometimes give in to the same wasteful impulses that plague the rest of us. A thrifty’s “6th sense” remains a constant, though.
Even when they give in to temptation and buy the product, frugal people always search for methods to minimize the impact on their finances. For example, they will only purchase 1 beverage rather than 2 or 3.
