2. Know where you are
Check your credit card statements from after the holidays while also keeping in mind your regular monthly expenses like rent and other utilities. Make sure you pay the minimum amount due on each credit card, and if you have additional money, attempt to put it toward the cards with higher interest rates.
If all of this information seems overwhelming, grab a pen and a piece of paper and jot it all down. Before making a budget for next year’s holidays and starting to save money, make sure you pay all the stuff that’s urgent before and then make calculations on how much you will be able to save each month. Maybe you can set aside 20% of your income one month and only 10% the next. There is no need to panic because a slow process doesn’t mean it will never be able to meet expectations. Take it slowly!
