Garbage disposal
Despite popular perception, the garbage disposal isn’t indestructible nor as tough as steel as some might think. Most of us like to use hot water when washing dishes, as it is more comfortable than having our hands freeze, but the hot water in our sinks can run up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit (though we doubt you wash dishes with such hot water) not to mention how most of us throw out boiling water from the pasta in the sink as well.
The hot water can make the leftover pieces of food in your garbage disposal to melt. Which will turn it into a thick paste of trash that will cause the garbage disposal to clog. One way to avoid doing this is to get rid of the boiling water first, then rinse the food off the plates with cold water, before turning the water hot to wash our dishes. Trust us, your kitchen repair fund will thank us.
