As a customer, you have to know that retailers WORK with psychologists who know exactly how to lure you into their store. Whether we’re talking about a “limited time offer” or an “expiring soon” sign, admit it: it’s totally working.

There are also other ways, a bit more subtle, to make you shop, like the “new low price” sign. In reality, all these strategies and promotions are made to trick your brain into spending your money. In most cases, the price you’ll see at that limited-time offer is exactly the same price, and the new low price is nothing but the introductory price of that product. If you want to spot this trick on time, you should fully ignore the words you see on the display and simply let the numbers tell their own story.

And when I say numbers, I mean the actual price of the item. If you regularly shop at that store, it’s even better: you can easily tell if the price is actually the “sale price”. However, most people don’t really know if the price is a deal, so they buy it anyway.

Here’s the thing: big-box retailers will come up with the best and most elaborate displays you’ll ever see and add killer discounts to lure you into shopping, even if you don’t need anything. As the products are highly discounted and they simply look SO GOOD, they always draw shoppers in.

These displays are a part of what we like to call the “open the wallet” strategy, a well-known trick that gets shoppers super excited about shopping for things they didn’t even need or plan to shop for. You might be tricked into thinking that you strategically saved a lot of money, but it’s not true.
