8 Duty-Free Things You Should NEVER Buy

7. Foreign Currency

In most cases, changing money for foreign currency tends to be the last thing someone does before going on a trip. However, according to Jennifer McDermott, a consumer advocate, you shouldn’t do this at the airport.

It’s quite common for travelers to arrive unprepared, and since there aren’t many currency exchange booths at the airport (so no competition), those booths tend to charge extra hike-up fees and provide far from the best exchange rates.

8. Luggage

If you’re traveling through the airport and you want to buy luggage, you’re definitely doing so out of necessity. Whether your luggage has broken, been lost, or you just need a replacement for whatever reason, the airport duty-free shops are banking on it.

Just like the extra charge on snacks and foods that they know hungry travelers will spend their money on, the markup on luggage they know you may have no choice but to buy is often ridiculous.

So, our advice is to skip this one and upgrade your luggage once you’re home, where you’ll undoubtedly have a wider range of both options and prices.
