This or That: Who Has The Best Bakery…Sam’s Club Or Costco?

Costco Muffins

The price of a Costco Muffins package is $10, which is 83 cents per muffin. The first impression you’ll get is that Costco is forcing you to buy two six-muffin packages. We bought pumpkin streusel and blueberry muffins, and both of them tasted fine.

The streusel was more of an ultra-sugary frosting, but that was just the best part, as the rest of the muffin was rather bland. The blueberry muffins weren’t much different, even if it’s nice that they weren’t too sweet. However, Costco’s muffins are dull but passable.

Sam’s Club Muffins

Sam’s Club Muffins are cheaper, as the package costs only $7, which is $77 cents per muffin. The pack has nine muffins in it, including a banana nut, chocolate, and blueberry, all of which are pretty delicious. They taste like they’re mass-produced, but the banana and blueberry muffins are much tastier than what Costco has to offer.

Costco Bagels

A pack of Costco Bagels cost $8, which is 66 cents per bagel. We tried the bagels at Costco and it wasn’t disappointing. The wholesaler didn’t skimp on the seasoning, and it was very well-toasted. Naturally, it can’t compare to a quality bakery.

However, Costco’s bagels are better than many other supermarket offerings. But I must say that it’s a bit frustrating that you’re forced to buy a minimum of two packages or nothing at all.

Sam’s Club Bagels

At Sam’s Club, the bagels cost half the price of Costco, as they’re only $4. Sam’s Club’s bagels are bigger, and the retailer’s bakery skimps when it comes to seasoning. There weren’t any caraway seeds. However, Sam’s doesn’t rise to Costco’s level, as the Walmart-owned store pre-cuts its bagels. And from someone who always freezes its bagels, that’s a big bonus.

Selection

When you visit both these warehouses, Costco obviously has the better selection. The superstore had a wide variety of pastries, cakes, muffins, and actually everything you would ever want from a bakery. However, this doesn’t mean that Sam’s selection isn’t worth the while, it just means that you would much more options at Costco.

Conclusion

There were a lot of ties, so it’s honestly a bit impossible to say that Sam’s Club is much better than Costco, or the other way around. It solely depends on what you want. If you are throwing a party and you want to get a couple of cheap muffins, you have to shop at Sam’s Club.

However, if you are looking for a croissant to go with that morning espresso, Costco is the winner. In both of these cases, you can’t possibly go wrong with Costco or Sam’s bakery, as you can easily buy in bulk at any of these two superstores. It might seem like a boring answer, but our take is that you should go wherever you’re registered as a member.
