Beans
Next time you’re getting groceries, make sure you buy some beans. According to nutritionists, you can’t go wrong with them. Anne VanBeber, a Nutritional Sciences professor at Texas Christian University, has been teaching her students how to make a healthy and wonderful meal for four people for less than $10.
Dry beans are definitely the cheapest, but according to VanBeber, many folks aren’t comfortable with their culinary skills to cook them. If that’s your case, she recommends canned beans. There are many types of beans you can try: black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), black-eyed peas and so on.
Beans make an excellent side dish or filler because they are high in fiber and protein. Add white beans to a broccoli and chicken casserole or mashup some kidney beans to make some salsa for a dip or side dish.
