#3 Shopping bags

We are all guilty of this one, so do not feel like we’re trying to badger you. However, whenever we forget our reusable bags at home when going grocery shopping or when we randomly pop into the store to grab a few things for dinner, we end up having to buy paper or plastic bags from the store. And when we get home, we stuff them in a drawer, under the sink, in another plastic bag with plastic bags, next to the bin so you can reuse them!

Yet, some of them will never see the light of day again! So try to be more mindful of this and toss some of them out! Declutter your kitchen and toss out any extra bags you haven’t used in ages (some are probably gross by now), or consider repurposing them if you don’t want to toss them. You can use them to pick up after your dog, clean the litter, or even as a trash bag in the bathroom!

However, if you’re not using it, it’s time to toss it!

#4 Saved up plastic cutlery

Most of the time, when you order takeout, they will also add plastic cutlery so that it’s more convenient. They cannot possibly know you are going to use your own silverware because you are at home! So no matter if you already have other plastic cutlery sets on hand or you have other cutlery you are going to use, you probably already have a bag or a drawer filled with plastic cutlery!

We all lie to ourselves and say we will use them the next time we go to a picnic or at the next BBQ party we throw. But let’s be honest, they almost never get used, and they just gather dust and grime in a drawer somewhere in your kitchen.

Consider this your sign: It’s time to toss them out in the recycle bin! And next time you order takeout at home, make sure to let the restaurant know you don’t need any plastic cutlery!
