#3 An abundance of store-brand products
Back in 1972, Trader Joe’s introduced its first private-label product out of many to follow, and surprisingly, it was granola! And while a lot of stores nowadays have the same type of formula with an abundance of store-brand products, about 80% of what you can find in a Trader Joe’s is going to be their own brand.
This can be both a good and a bad thing at the same time, making shopping here a double-edged sword. For once, since they are focusing on their own products, it means that they do not have to pay a premium on certain items since they are buying through a middleman, and there will be no added fees to the final price due to that.
However, despite having the added benefit of cheaper products, if you can only access their brand, you can miss out on other products. Some big brand-name products have gotten so big because they are tried and true, and switching them for something you’re not sure will work just as well is a gamble not many want to take.
Even so, there are still a lot of perks to their own brand, so keep an open mind and maybe you can find some new staples from Trader Joe’s private label for your shopping list!
